Job Description
Description & Requirements

The Broad Institute is looking for an exceptional candidate for the Research Associate II position to join the Cancer Dependency Group (DepMap) at the Cancer Program.

One of the key overarching goals of the DepMap is to systematically identify cancer-specific dependencies, to facilitate the development of new therapeutic approaches to adult and pediatric cancers. Using genome-scale CRISPR technologies, DepMap is systematically creating a catalog of essential genes across the diversity of human tumors. We are defining the landscape of cancer vulnerabilities by integrating CRISPR screens with the molecular features of the cell lines and using novel data science approaches.

Currently, DepMap is expanding into new cutting-edge technologies using large-scale single-cell readouts to provide novel insights into cancer dependencies. We seek a unique, energetic, motivated individual to join the project to support our experimental workflow. The candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary team, working alongside research scientists and other research associates. The position includes data analysis, scientific interpretation, and experimental assay development. The individual is expected to exercise scientific judgment and quickly learn the skills necessary to participate in the scientific development of the projects. A successful candidate will be highly enthusiastic about taking a hands-on approach and will be expected to actively participate in many research responsibilities including, but not limited to, verbal and visual communication of scientific data.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform cell culture and molecular biology procedures including DNA or RNA isolation, PCR, molecular cloning and Western blotting.

  • Execute high-throughput single-cell genomics and functional CRISPR screens in cancer cell lines.

  • Investigate and develop new methods and technologies for project advancement.

  • Plan experiments, together with your supervisor, to address specific questions defined by group projects and implementation thereof.

  • Document, compile, and analyze experimental data.

  • Generate oral and written presentations on performed experiments and present results in team meetings.

  • Contribute to peer-reviewed scientific publications.

  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.

  • Prepare, order, and maintain stocks of necessary reagents, solutions and supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology or related fields is required.

  • At least two years to four years of experience in a biological research laboratory is required.

  • Good experience with tissue culture is a requirement.

  • Experience with cellular and molecular biology techniques is strongly preferred.

  • Experience working with single-cell RNA-seq, CRISPR screens or drug sensitivity profiling is a plus.

  • Must have excellent written, documentation, and oral communication skills.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills, including the ability to handle a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment with excellent time-management skills.

  • Ability to exercise judgment within defined experimental techniques.

  • A quantitative mindset to investigate problems.

  • Enthusiasm for learning new technologies.

  • Exceptional organizational and critical thinking skills, laboratory notebook practices and attention to detail are essential.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
