STV is seeking aTransportation Construction Inspectorfor work for our Transportation group inMaryland. We have specific needs in Northern MD and Central MD.

Responsibilities:

• Inspects construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications
• Acts as consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution
• may serve as the only inspector on a construction project or assist in overseeing construction inspection activities for very large and/or complex projects within a district or conduct statewide construction inspection activities for ongoing airport improvement projects
• Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for approval of all work.
• Work requires contact with contractors.
• May perform materials tests and manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites.

Essential Duties:

• Attends pre-construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees
• Calculates payments due contractors for work completed
• Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans or airport closure plans and ensures compliance with approved safetystandards; inspects barricades as required, and moves traffic control devices and barricades

Requirements:

• Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalence certificate
• Desire to learn technical engineering/heavy highway construction related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning
• Works on complex issues and exercises sound judgement in direction to contractor for resolution to construction issues.
• Supervision on lower tier inspectors required.
• Monitors CPM schedules, material clearance, progress payments, MWBE monitoring and reporting, sketch book and approval of time and expense of lower tier inspectors.
• Applicants may substitute education in civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 credit hours for each year of the required experience, up to a maximum of three years.

• Maryland State Highway Green and Yellow Erosion and Sediment Control Certification
