Telephone Case Screener
 
The Baker Center for Children and Families (formerly: Judge Baker Children’s Center) established in 1917. The Baker Center for Children and Families, “JBCC” is dedicated to improving the lives of children and adolescents whose mental health problems threaten to limit their potential.  JBCC was named in honor of the Boston Juvenile court’s first Judge Harvey Humphrey Baker, a visionary in child welfare.  Judge Harvey Baker was among the first to advocate a system based on understanding and treatment to help troubled youth, rather than one using punishment or incarceration.  Today, integrating education, service, research, and training, The Baker Center for Children and Families has become a national leader in the field of children’s mental health.

ABOUT THE MA CHILD ABUSE EMERGENCY LINE:
The MA Child Abuse Emergency Line, operated by JBCC for DCF, provides a statewide emergency response system protecting the Commonwealth’s children from abuse and neglect. The Emergency Line fields over 70,000 calls per year, operating 24 hours/day, 365 days/year. Telephone Screeners work 8-hour staggered shifts from 4:00 pm – 9:00 am weekdays with one overnight per week and staggered shifts throughout the weekend including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and overnights. Individuals choose their work schedules based on availability! Telephone Case Screener
 
Summary:
Emergency Line Telephone Screeners work collaboratively with experienced supervisors to assess the urgency of each call, elicit critical information, and initiate an emergency response when children are at imminent risk. They respond to calls from individuals reporting concerns about a child or children at risk of abuse and/or neglect or a child who is missing. Telephone Screeners engage callers to gather as much information as possible, thoroughly and accurately document the information in the electronic case management system, review and assess the information gathered and make an informed clinical screening decision. The Emergency Line provides an intensive and comprehensive initial training program followed by monthly workshops on a variety of topics related to our work.
 
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in human service, social work or related field.
  • Experience working with Children and families, or the desire to utilize critical thinking skills to keep children safe.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience in customer service.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Commitment to working in an integrity driven environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, ethics, and cultural awareness.
  • Ensure confidentiality and a high level of customer service in all interactions.
  • Commitment to cultural humility, diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Must have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.

EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT:                Non-Exempt  
FULL-TIME/PART-TIME:                 Full-Time, will consider Part-Time at 18 hours per week.
SALARY:                                          $24.00
OPEN DATE:                                   Ongoing until filled.  
SCHEDULE:                                    Weekend, Holidays, Night & Overnight shift
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This is a benefit-eligible position. Presence on-site is required after-hours, weekends, and holidays. This position qualified as “essential personnel” and may require presence on-site during weather-related or other emergency situations.
Ability to commute/relocate: Waltham, MA 02453: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required).
