Ipswich YMCA Summer Camp Adventure Specialist

Camp Cedar Mill located in Rowley, encompasses 207 acres of beautiful, wooded trails, a spacious outdoor swimming pool, adventure course, climbing wall, sports fields, campfires, log cabins, and lodges. This rustic, nature-filled setting provides a summer chock full of fun. Our second Camp, Camp Dory, is located nearby at Centennial Grove on the beautiful shores of Chebacco Lake in Essex.  Here we offer swimming, kayaking, arts and crafts, and sports in a small camp setting where kids can learn, build confidence, and make memories and friends that last a lifetime.

 

As the Adventure Specialist, you will help lead outdoor activities as part of a larger summer camp program, providing specialized knowledge in your area of expertise while developing team building and social skills in youth campers!  The Adventure Specialist will support the safe and fun operating of outdoor activities including but not limited to hiking, kayaking, white water rafting, ropes challenge courses, zip-lining, stand-up paddle boarding, and rock climbing.  On a regular day the Specialist will support camp counselors, lead daily adventure fieldtrips, and provide supervision to youth campers.  The Adventure Specialist is responsible for creating a memorable summer experience for campers and ensuring that safety during activities is a top priority. 

 

To thrive in this role, you have experience in summer camp settings working with youth, have a passion for outdoor activity, and a desire to share your skills and knowledge with others.  You are able to demonstrate techniques while providing clear communication to children to engage them in taking steps to conquer their fears and participate fully in camp activities.  You have an optimistic attitude and enjoy inspiring others to succeed while sharing in their accomplishments.  You have the utmost attention to detail with due regard for safety and policies to ensure the health and well-being of participants.

  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  •  ACCT certification preferred or obtaining the certification before the camp season starts
  • At least 2 years experience on ropes courses (high and low ropes)
  • Experience team-building facilitating and have camp/outdoor education experience
  • Available Monday-Friday (5 days) May - September
  • Must have reliable transportation to ensure the ability to commute to and arrive at camp on time daily
