Accounting Intern Job Description

Job Description: Support the day-to-day finance and accounting operations of an entrepreneurial retail energy provider of electricity and natural gas serving residential and commercial customers within deregulated energy markets across the United States. The company has a creative, fast-paced, results-focused culture with an emphasis on innovation, optimization, and data-driven decision making. This opportunity is remote with occasional social events at the office downtown Chicago for team building. This position will require to work 25-30 hours throughout the school year, opportunity to work 40 hours during summer.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries and record company transactions
• Daily bank reconciliations
• Prepare and review account reconciliations
• Assist in the month-end close and the generation of monthly financial statements
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
• Maintain invoice management software for accounts payable
• Accounts payable ledger maintenance
• Review and process employee expense reports and maintain expense management software
• Analyze the Companys P&L and general ledger to ensure coding consistency
• Assist with year-end audit preparation
• Ad hoc projects and requests

Requirements

• Studying and pursuing towards an Accounting degree
• Beginner/intermediate Microsoft Office skills. Excel skills are a plus
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• High energy, team player
• Data driven
• Willingness to learn and work in a hands-on environment
• Self-starter and solution oriented
• Open and willing to learn
