MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manage the Pensole Academy and New Balance Designing with Sole design workshop a several weeks long master class. Engage with Pensole Academy in the early selection process of applicants to the New Balance/Pensole Academy annual design workshop.
  • Engage and advise Pensole Academy in the development and application of the specialized syllabus the students will be following.
  • Meet with the students at specified intersections during the course of the design workshop to provide supplemental instruction related to footwear design at New Balance.
  • Join the judges panel which critiques the students team projects and selects the winners of various awards at the end of the workshop event. Work with the Sr. Directors of Design to select the finalists from the student pool who will join New Balance for a year-long apprenticeship with the New Balance Foundry.
  • Manage the selected apprentices for the program duration, likely one year.
  • Work with Sr. Design Directors and Design Operations to develop onboarding programs for the students joining NB for one-year apprenticeships.
  • Manage all Design Interns and Apprentices.
  • Create and attend on-boarding meetings for the apprentices to network within the New Balance product community for first 90 days each.
  • Teach courses on basic skills such as sketching and technical packing. Produce lifestyle or performance shoe designs for go to market concepts.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Industrial Design, or related field and two years of work experience in the job offered or related field of footwear design.

  • Two years of experience in footwear design and sketching

  • Two years of experience in engineering drawing software including Illustrator, Rhino and Photoshop

  • Two years of experience in 3D molding

  • Two years of tooling experience including MODO design

  • Two years of hand and illustrator sketching and specing experience

  • Two years of experience with presenting designs and concepts through sketching. Must also have two years of flat sketching experience.

Position located in Boston, MA

Remote work benefit available within normal commuting distance from office location during any period of COVID-related office closure. A hybrid approach longer term with working from home within normal commuting distance two days a week.
